I was 8 when we arrived in Kaneohe Marine air station. We first lived on Bancroft...the house is gone now.My dad was a Major and became CO of HMM-262 CH46 "the flying tigers" so we moved to hilltop. We were there when President Nixon came to Kaneohe for 2 days, on his way to China.I loved living on hilltop ...the F4 Phantoms would take - off and shake the windows on the house...Hawaii was a total blast!!!! Going to Waikiki and seeing the Brady Bunch on the beach and hanging out at Fort Durusy.
This resort has very few amenities and an excessively long minimum check-in time (3 years or more!).
Beautiful community!
Air Traffic Controller at K-Bay, 56 - 58. Great place!
They do run guided tours, but they often take you far away from what you expect to see in Hawaii. I mean, you'll see sand, but not beach sand. It's like a 14 hour flight and there's IEDs. No thank you!
Overall, this resort has potential but its ruined by the absurd rules and non-negotiating resort staff. However, it does have an outstanding gay bar. I would instead recommend Hickam AFB if you're thinking about an extended vacation in Hawaii.
You can get some good views on top of KT, but there's very little time to enjoy it before staff encourages you to go back down to the bottom.
I was stationed there as a crew chief (flight mechanic) on Sea Stallions. It was one of the best air stations I was assigned to. PS: This app took me back. Semper Fi .
